Who we are

Committed to Switzerland as a centre of industry and research

Swissmem has built up a strong national and international network and helps Swiss industrial companies to stay competitive, establish and maintain an international market presence and present their products abroad.

Swissmem unites over 1,100 companies from Switzerland’s mechanical and electrical engineering industries (MEM industries), ranging from small enterprises to global corporations. Swissmem is therefore the largest industry association in the country and has an influential voice in Swiss public debate.

Alongside its efforts to create the best possible conditions for business in Switzerland, the association’s mandate includes maintaining a constructive network within the industry and beyond. In the international arena, Swissmem helps companies to maximize their market presence by organizing joint attendance at trade fairs and setting up contacts.

Swissmem promotes innovation and development

Swissmem is committed to continuously strengthening the international competitiveness of the companies within the industry. Access to knowledge and qualified employees are key factors in the technological advances made by the companies and in their market success. The association therefore deliberately promotes cooperation between companies and universities and supports knowledge transfer from research to the business economy.

Promoting young talent is another important area in which the association is active, given that any company’s capacity for innovation depends on having a sufficient number of well-trained professionals at all levels.

Swissmem endeavours to stimulate an interest in technology and engineering among young people and to demonstrate how fascinating careers in these fields can be.

Swissmem is committed to training qualified professionals

The Swissmem Professional Training Institute is a centre of excellence and service centre for training in the Swiss mechanical and electrical engineering industries. It is committed to promoting a modern, attractive form of vocational training, with a focus on mechanical engineering, design engineering, automation, electronics and information technology.

The Swissmem Professional Training Institute is the largest organization in Switzerland to be entirely devoted to the development of vocational trainers, teaching materials and vocational training services.

The association’s members are heavily involved in training; the MEM industries are one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in Switzerland, with some 10,000 training places on offer.
