Description

Sun-Ways technology makes it possible to mechanically install removable solar power plants between the rails of a railway track. The patented system is perfectly stable, allowing trains to pass through at high speed, while allowing the usual maintenance work to be carried out on the tracks.

Our partner Scheuchzer Ltd has adapted the machine used to lay the rails in the world's longest railway tunnel, the Gotthard, in Switzerland, for Sun-ways. This special machine is capable of taking a series of panels stored on wagons and de-positing them between the rails of the track. Such a ma-chine can install up to 1,000 m2 of solar panels per day.

The fastening systems developed by Sun-Ways can withstand winds of up to 240 km/h, so the prototype already offers great qualities in terms of safety and stability. This makes it possible to exploit very large unused areas, without visual or environmental im-pact, and with good profitability.

The length of the rail-way networks in Japan is 24,000 km.
By harnessing all of these grids to install Sun-Ways portable so-lar power plants, Ja-pan could produce up to 6 TWh of electricity from solar energy and save more than 1,000,000 tons of CO2 each year.
